The Bendix® Side Looking Radar (commonly known as BlindSpotter®) is an exterior-mounted sensor designed to detect large metallic objects in a vehicle’s adjacent lanes. Its core function is to reduce sideswipe collisions by providing a 150-degree field of coverage that extends up to 10 feet to the side and up to 20 feet in front of and behind the radar unit. The system alerts drivers via a dash-mounted display that shows a yellow light when active and a red light when an object is detected; if the driver engages the turn signal while the red light is on, an audible warning sounds to indicate a lane change is unsafe.
